Hamilton Aquatic Club is delighted to announce that it has secured Darren Ward as our new Head Coach! Darren has demonstrated podium success both in and out of the pool. He has been instrumental in developing and rebuilding successful group training structures for over 20 years. It is this type of innovative and motivated leader that HAC has been looking for. We look forward to what the 2020-2021 season brings.

Member of the 1988 and 1992 Canadian Olympic Team
World Cup Champion in 1992
Former Canadian and Commonwealth Record holder in the 100IM and 200IM
2-time CSCA Domestic Coaching “Award of Excellence”
Swim Ontario Age Group Coach of the year 11-12 year-old boys.
Darren’s Statement to the Membership:
“I am thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to be the new Head Coach of the Hamilton Aquatic Club. HAC has a rich history in Canadian swimming and I am eager to be able to lead the club in a new and exciting direction that will once again move HAC back to prominence. With the support of the Board of Directors, the Coaching staff and most importantly the swimmers and parents, we will achieve great things.
I am looking forward to meeting everyone and hope that we can get back to the pools as soon as it is deemed safe to do so."

HAC swimmers continued the recent run of success at provincial championship meets this last weekend with two of our swimmers getting on the podium at their respective meets.
Halayna Montrichard made two finals at the 2020 Swim Ontario Winter Ontario Swimming Championships (OSC) held at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, placing 9th in the 13 & Under 200 Meters Backstroke and winning a bronze medal in the final of the 13 & Under 100 Meters Backstroke.
Aneshka Frickleton also made two finals at the 2020 Swim Ontario Winter Ontario Youth Junior Championships (OYJ) held at the Markham Pan Am Centre, placing 8th in the 13 & Under 100 Metres Butterfly and following that up by winning a bronze medal in the final of the 13 & Under 100 Metres Freestyle.
Congratulations to Halayna and Aneshka and to all of the HAC swimmers that qualified for these two championships and competed against some of Canada’s best swimmers at these two very competitive meets. Congratulations also go to Coach Sam Forrester for continuing his group’s successful run at the province’s top championships.
This last weekend saw HAC swimmers competing at two provincial championship meets that ran simultaneously from Thursday through to Sunday. The 2020 Winter Ontario Swimming Championships (OSC) were held at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre in Scarborough and the 2020 Winter Ontario Youth Junior (OYJ) Championships were held at the Markham Pan Am Centre.
Sophia Calcagni, Halayna Montrichard and Amy Tian swam in the OSC championships. Mylana Campanaro, Liam Connolly, Aneshka Frickleton, Nolan Hunt, Ben Pietrantonio, Allie Shakeshaft and Kingsley Wainwright swam in the OYJ championships.

13 & Under 100 Back – qualified for finals and won bronze
13 & Under 200 Back – qualified for finals and placed 9th
13 & Under 100 Free – qualified for finals and placed 9th
13 & Under 50 Free – qualified for finals and placed 10th
13 & Under 200 Free – qualified for finals and placed 10th
13 & Under 100 Free – qualified for finals and won bronze with an OSC and Easterns qualifying time
13 & Under 100 Fly – qualified for finals and placed 8th
13 & Under 200 Fly – qualified for finals and placed 4th with an OSC and Easterns qualifying time
Coach Sam has proven how talented he is but even he can’t be in two places at the same time. Sam was at OSC Thursday through Saturday and switched to OYJ on Sunday. Thanks Sam for all of your time over the weekend. Special thanks go to Coach Darryl for giving up his time and stepping in to be on deck to support the OYJ swimmers from Thursday to Saturday.
